Eric Duffin

Watershed Scientist/Hydrologist

Eric is experienced in the broad field of watershed science, with expertise in hydrology, water quality, soil physics, fluvial geomorphology, and computer science. Working in the environmental field since 1993 and with Cirrus since its inception in 2000, he has managed several TMDL (water quality) projects for the State of Utah, a watershed assessment for Salt Lake County, and water quality monitoring projects for PacifiCorp and the Forest Service. He also has direct professional experience with evaluation and analysis of proposed watershed improvements, conducting hydrologic inventories, quantifying point and non-point source pollution, computer modeling, stream surveying, water quality sampling and monitoring, water quantity assessment, datalogger programming, and remote data retrieval.

His graduate and post-graduate research examined snowmelt runoff, soil erosion, infiltration, evapotranspiration, and unsaturated soil moisture flow in sagebrush-steppe ecosystems using a variety of automated and manual assessment techniques. He has managed field crews, served on several NEPA project teams, and provided technical analysis and writing for other physical and human-resource disciplines.

Eric worked in a variety of jobs before finishing his graduate degree, including working summers as a fire fighter with the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management, making snow for a ski resort, and working as an EMT. His hobbies include most outdoor activities, wood working, and basketball. His family is currently working together to restore their 120-year-old house. Most of all, he enjoys spending time with his family and watching his children excel in their various activities.
